Do-it-Yourself Christmas Flower Arranging

Earlier this month, we taught a children's flower arranging class at The Huntington Library. The theme was Christmas decorations and we showed each student with their parent how to create a miniature Christmas tree using leather fern and mini red spray carnations.  Using a tower of floral foam that the children learned to carve themselves, they then cut up the fern leaves to create a mini tree. I got to try to make my own at home and so far it's lasted a good two weeks! With the leftover spray carnations, I also made a large red Christmas ball that makes a great festive centerpiece. I placed it on top of shiny magnolia leaves which are easy to get this time of year at the flower mart.
